We go back and forth with feelings
Trying to find a common ground
What we settle on is almost always at my expense
It’s draining but you made me believe it’s just my way of life
Nothing about this is healthy
You sabotage every inkling of happiness I attempt to gather
Yes you have been hurt by many people time and time again
Hurt people, hurt people
Give it a chance won’t you?
Everyone is not the same and everyone isn’t out to ruin you
It’s all you want, I know
You need something to hold on to
That lets you know the happiness you feel isn’t just too good to be true
It’s real, it’s very real
So I say this to you, “let me go because I refuse to be your victim any longer”
“Yes you, you will no longer drag me down” I say to myself
I remember when it insisted on taking you from me
Eating away at you like it was hungry
Dimming your light that once shined so brightly
Distorting the lives of friends and family
You’re the definition of never giving up
You showed me that the lowest can always rise on top
I don’t think I’ve ever seen you without a smile on your face
It’s like you saw ahead of time you already won the race
My amazing fighter I saw what you did
You made it known that your life had more to give
Fueled by positivity and joy in your veins
The greatest gains in life are often conceived in pain
How deep is your love?
As deep as my pockets?
As deep as my looks?
As deep as my soul?
Love can’t sit with vanity,
Only feelings are worthy of love’s company.
Your life rolled out on a carpet of words
Or simply writing for the voiceless that wish to be heard
Lifeless pen and lifeless paper
Given life by their emotional creator
Appreciation for rhymes and free verses too
What does poetry mean to you?
To me it’s passion in whatever comes out your pen
To me it’s the times when writing is your only friend
It’s anything and everything you want it to be
But mostly it’s a gateway that sets my mind free
And even if that freedom don’t last for too long
I know that having the courage to speak makes me strong
Her eyes held the key to all her stories,
With proud steps she inspired many.
She spoke without even saying a word,
And though without voice her language was heard.
A smile as bright as staring into the sun,
To blind out all the negative ones.
Only the genuine would see through,
As they understand her parables in every move.
It’s over now and she’s headed backstage,
On her way home she wipes the smile off her face.
Bruises on her feet the audience cannot see,
A soak in the bath is just what she needs.
Thinking about what story she will tell next,
Never giving anything less than her best.
With hard work comes pain but it also brings laughter,
And this was the life of the graceful dancer.
It feels so strange how times have changed,
I look on from afar at every passing car.
Everyone’s so busy, seems they don’t have a clue
Of why I’m so heartbroken and saddened by my view.
They took away my family, the ones that cleanses the air
Tree by tree we fall and no one seems to fear.
The dangers, oh how much it hurts
Do we have another planet to move to?
Why are we killing mother earth?
She sheds her tears with the falling rain.
No one seems to wonder, no one feels the pain…that she feels.
How much more of this do I have to see?
Am I the only one, is it just me?
Very few pay attention and very few understand,
The consequences of reckless living and the destruction of our land.
One person at a time is all it really takes,
To make a move towards a better future by decreasing our mistakes.
Emotional wounds take the longest to heal,
A mental war with both sword and shield.
Such battle can take years to subside,
Some of us give up and pay with our lives.
It’s always sad to see people’s lives just fade away,
The ones that never felt it always have the most to say.
So get off of your high horses and educate yourself,
Know that the mind can be a prison if not to you then to someone else.
